Miró, Miró On The Wall

MiroFeature

Spanish artist Joan Miró was one of the most influential members of the 20th century avant-garde. His bold use of primary colors and swirling, surrealistic forms influenced a generation of artists, paving the way for such innovations as Abstract Expressionism.

Now, the Nasher Museum at Duke University is celebrating the artist’s legacy with the exhibition, “Miró: The Experience of Seeing,” which runs through February 22. The exhibition examines the final two decades of Miró’s career, which he spent on the island of Mallorca, through a selection of 27 sculptures and 18 paintings on loan from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain.

Today, many of the Catelan master’s works are represented in the collections of the world’s finest museums. On the rare occasions when these works do come up for auction, they often reach sky-high prices—like the record-breaking 2012 sale of Miró’s 1927 painting Peinture (Etoile Bleue) for nearly $40 million in London.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t add a Miró to your collection. Lofty has a wide range of prints and posters designed by the artist himself. Here’s a look at some of our favorites.
