2016 Met Gala Mashup

Zoe-Saldana-Robert-Kuster

It’s hard not to feel inspired by some of the red carpet looks from the 2016 Met Gala this past Monday. The theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion in the age of Technology, and there were some incredible costumes incorporating innovative, glamorous, and – above all – artful elements.

The gilded list of celebrities in attendance took the theme by force, with a few distinct trends emerging as fashion industry’s favorites. We decided to take a deeper look into some of the more design-driven dresses, pairing them with some of our favorite items for you to take home and make your own.

Silver Shine

Metallic gowns stood out this year as one of the most popular trends. While chrome and silver evoke a futuristic feel, the styles are rooted in the glamour of art deco with the timeless reference to diamonds.

Kim Kardashian; Cindy Crawford; Platinum and Diamond Spray Brooch; Kylie Jenner; Naomi Watts

Pink Pop

Soft pink is typically thought of as delicate and demure, but these dresses are as fierce as the women wearing them. For such powerful looks, we’d suggest these rings as a perfect pink pairing.

Pink
Beyonce; Gold and Moonstone “Bird Claw” Cocktail Ring; White, Rose, and Yellow Gold Tigers Eye Cameo Ring; Blake Lively

Gold Glam

Nothing quite says classic glamour like gold. From Byzantine Art to Klimpt’s The Kiss, art and gold have always gone together. With that in mind, we chose two design pieces inspired by these leading ladies’ looks.

Gold
Siena Miller; Gold and Diamond Ruby Brooch; Gold Boucheron Dress Watch; Zendaya

The accompanying Costume Institute’s exhibition is running at the Met 5th Avenue through August 14.
